Multi-Encoding-Editor
Introduction
This program was written to convert easily files with different encodings, like DOS/OEM or Windows ANSI to UTF-8. Since this program can convert back and forth to different encodings, we decided to let other people use this for their advantage.
Naturally a conversation from one encoding to another might impose data loss. One can of course not expect that Chinese or Japanese charaters will survive a conversation to ASCII.
The program becomes very handy in Western Europe where one can open an ANSI file with umlaute and save it as UTF-8. Here the umlaute will survive but will be encoded differently. A possible need for this might be, when you convert HTML pages from iso-8859-1 to UTF-8 encoding.
