P&K MPI
Multi-Core / Multi-Processor extension
for P&K
TAL2K
Multi-Core and Cluster-Version
P&K TAL2K integrates the MPI-Version in two different ways:
- The Multi-Core-Version uses the Cores in one PC. This version can be
installed as Upgrade and activated via a setting in P&K TAL2K or AUSTAL
VIEW. Calculation will run with almost 2-fold (Dual Core) or 4-fold (Quad-Core)
the speed.
- The Cluster version uses Cores in several PCs. This requires
installation of additional software on all PCs and P&K TAL2K or AUSTAL VIEW
on an additional PC, which then acts as controller. The controller coordinates
the distribution of data to the client PCs, the control of the job execution
and the collection of results. A cluster version makes only sense, if all PCs
are connected via a very fast network (at least 1Gbit/s). Calculation will run
up to 16-fold the speed. (Requires multiple networked sufficient PCs; Special
Installation knowledge required.)
The local version (Multi-Core or Multi-Processor in one Box) of our
Software Extension for P&K TAL2K is included in the package P&K
TAL2K Multi Core .

Installation:
- Installation is straight forward. Run the installer and follow
through.
- For the operation of our software the MS .net framework has to be
installed.
- Also is required is the
Visual
C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Microsoft
- Make sure smpd.exe, mpiexec.exe, pk_mpi.exe, austalMPI.exe and
taldiaMPI.exe can access the network and are not blocked by any firewall or
other software.
- Make sure that above programs can access enough resources. If you run
austal2000 four times (on 4 cores), you need to have four times the RAM one
process would use.
Note: Hyper Thread is not Multi-Core or Multi-Processor!
